…For it Finally Begins to Live is a recital by Ethan De Souza and Jade Jacques. This new music event features works written for the flute and percussion including drums, marimba, vibraphone, and more! They have performed for two years as students together at the University of Alberta and now are continuing their duo project as working musicians. In March 2026, they presented the Canadian Premiere of Zachery Meier’s “...For It Finally Begins to Live”, which is the title piece of this performance. This is an event for all ages and audiences interested in non-popular, new classical music!

Ethan De Souza is a percussionist from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. After obtaining his Bachelor’s of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Alberta, he is now pursuing his Master’s Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Ethan works as a percussionist, conductor, producer, and educator in both Canada and the USA.
An advocate of new music, Ethan often collaborates with young and aspiring composers, having been part of 15 World, Canadian and US premieres including his own commissions.
Jade Jacques is an Edmonton-based performer and educator, specializing in flute and piccolo. She recently earned her Bachelor of Music with Distinction from the University of Alberta, with a concentration in flute performance, during which she studied under Shelley Younge. As a solo performer, she has participated in masterclasses with numerous accomplished flute players, including Jim Walker, Anthony Trionfo, and Lauren Eselson, and additionally, participated in a chamber masterclass with pianist Corey Hamm. She is also an active member of the River City Chamber Orchestra and the Edmonton Youth Orchestra, as well as an alumna of the UAlberta Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the UAlberta Symphony Orchestra. Outside of performing, Jade serves as the Librarian for the Edmonton Flute Association.
