The Gallery Shop retail spaces in both Edmonton and Calgary generate sales for artists, provide valuable career mentorship, product feedback, learning opportunities for the public, and revenue for the Alberta Craft Council to deliver additional programming.
Who is this call for? We encourage all levels from emerging to established artists working in craft specific media to apply if they are looking for a retail venue to develop their career. Applicants must be Alberta-based artists.

The Common Ground Festival is a place for emerging and small professional artists to present and develop the work that they are passionate about. Since our inception in 2014, we have been honoured to show Calgary the work of over 300 early career artists. In 2018 we partnered with the Pumphouse Theatres, a longtime supporter of emerging and small professional artists in Calgary, in order to provide the best stage for our artists
We are now growing again as a festival to expand from not only emerging artists, indie-theatre and new works, but also more artistic disciplines. For this year’s festival we want to provide an artistically diverse and unique experience for our audience!
This includes what you would expect from Common Ground as well as more dance, physical storytelling and non-traditional story telling by emerging and small professional artists.
What we are looking for from submissions:
The Common Ground Festival is (and always will be) looking for innovative, experimental or original works that showcases authentic and creatively embodied stories. if you've got a thing, we’ve got a stage for you.

This two-week immersive residency offers individual dancers the opportunity to explore and embody the unique choreographic languages of three internationally acclaimed dance artists - Kirsten Wicklund, Marie Gyselbrecht, and Cyril Baldy.
Participants will rotate through choreographic labs with each faculty artist, taking part in daily technique and improvisation classes that support embodied exploration.

This podcast amplifies the voices of young people who have faced racism or microaggressions, providing them with a platform to share their stories and perspectives.

The Digital Constellations Residency offers Indigenous digital media artists, filmmakers, and animators dedicated time and a supportive environment to advance the video and audio production and post-production aspects of their projects. “Toga da wôhnagabi” (Stories for the future) is a four-week hybrid Indigenous music residency that brings worldviews together from all four corners of Mother Earth. Watched over by Buffalo Spirit, the residency provides musicians and songwriters a transformative space to actively listen and learn from each other in story and song.
