New Exhibition: what on Earth is holding the loop up?

The Art Gallery of St. Albert is launching its newest exhibition in the beautiful Tom Thackeray Gallery on Thursday, September 3, 2026 and will run until October 17, 2026. what on Earth is holding the loop up?, by Lauren Chipeur inspires visitors to contemplate our entangled relationship with sulphur.
It was the colour that initially drew Lauren to sulphur. Staring at a piece of the raw element, small enough to sit in the palm of her hand, she marvelled at the neon hues.
For Lauren, following this singular element of sulphur lead her on a winding path from our bodies and our food to monumental industrial sites, including the Syncrude Mildred Lake Facility in Fort McMurray. Tracing these interconnected threads, what on Earth is holding the loop up? navigates the complexity of our entangled material world. What surrounds us every day is part of a complex network of production, and nearly impossible for one person to fully comprehend. In her exhibition, Lauren works with ceramics, paper, installation and photography to try to better understand the material world around us.
Lauren ensures that viewers will find something familiar and personal in her work. Objects and forms appear from our everyday lives, small tethers that ground us in our day-to-day reality. As the monumental and unseen meets the intimate and familiar, this exhibition slowly peels back the layers of our entangled reality, like the layers of an onion. what on Earth is holding the loop up? runs until October 17, 2026.
