The Shoe Project Special Anniversary Event

In collaboration with Her Honour, the Honourable Salma Lakhani, join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating 5 years of The Shoe Project in Edmonton. The evening will include a reception catered by the Italian Centre, speeches from our project partners, and 10 stories reflecting the past 5 years of this impactful program.
The Shoe Project is a national initiative that amplifies the voices of Canadian immigrant and refugee women through storytelling. Whether selected by choice or imposed by circumstance the shoes we wear can make or break a journey, shape our experiences, and open doors to our future. Each year, a group of immigrant and refugee women work with theatre professionals to write stories of their arrival and adaptation to Canada centered around a pair of shoes they have worn. Once their stories are complete, they present them for audiences in a revelatory public performance at SkirtsAfire Festival.
