What You Will Do
As a Summer Studio Facilitator, Ceramics, you’ll support and mentor artists throughout their creative journey—from idea development to exhibiting finished work—while respecting and preserving their creative independence. You’re a skilled and motivated artist with experience in ceramics (or broader visual arts) and a genuine interest in working within the disability arts community.
The Summer Facilitator, Ceramics provides direct support to artists throughout the creative process, ensuring a well-equipped, safe, and efficiently run studio environment. This role balances hands-on artistic facilitation, studio operations, and artist advocacy while upholding organizational policies and procedures. You’ll work closely with the Studio Faculty, Ceramics to provide ceramics focused assistance in the visual arts studio.
Key Responsibilities
• Support artists across all stages of the artistic cycle by assisting with idea development, skill building, and the creation, finishing, and presentation of artworks, while respecting artist autonomy and creative direction.
• Facilitate goal setting, track progress, and document outcomes
• Advocate for artists’ rights, well-being, and creative independence.
• Identify opportunities for and facilitate artist skills training as needed.
• Ensure artists have access to appropriate tools, materials, and inspirational resources aligned with their creative goals.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and fully functional studio by supporting equipment setup, cleanup, storage of artworks, kiln operations, glaze mixing, dust mitigation, and routine maintenance within the Ceramics department.
• Collaborate with the Studio Team on shared responsibilities including cleaning, studio maintenance, cross-disciplinary studio assistance, artwork framing and documentation, and installation of in-house exhibitions. • Immediately report any observed mental health, physical health, or behavioral concerns impacting artists or the studio community to appropriate leadership, in accordance with reporting protocols.
• Adhere to all direct service policies, studio procedures, and organizational protocols.
• As directed by the Senior Faculty, Studio support the development and delivery of supplemental initiatives—including workshops, programs, presentations, and professional development opportunities—that enhance artists’ skills, professional growth, and career readiness.
Experience and Skills You’ll Bring
• Formal training in the visual arts, with demonstrated technical proficiency in ceramics, including hand-building, wheel throwing, kiln operation, glaze preparation, and general studio safety practices.
• Relevant experience can be also considered.
• 2-5+ years in a facilitator, mentor, collaborator role in the arts.
• Ability to speak and write effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrable attention to detail.
• Basic skills in Microsoft Outlook and Word. Zoom facilitation
Additional Skills + Abilities Considered Asset
• Experience working with individuals with physical and/or developmental disabilities.
• American Sign Language (ASL)
• Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation & Working Hours
• $19.50/hour (+4% vacation pay)
• Monday–Friday; 9am–3:30pm
• On site parking

Eligibility
This is a position under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) grant. As per CSJ regulations, all candidates must be 18-30 years old at the start of employment; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment and have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations of the province of Alberta. Please note that international students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are also ineligible.
