Ekphrastic Poetry Showcase
DATE :
DEADLINE: April 16, 2026 - 5:00 pm
The 2026 Edmonton Poetry Festival invites poetry and visual art enthusiasts alike to join us at the Art Gallery of Alberta (AGA) in Edmonton (2 Sir Winston Churchill Sq) on April 16, 2026 from 5 to 7 pm for a special showcase of ekphrastic poetry: a writing practice in which the poet describes, translates, or otherwise writes in reaction to a piece of visual art.
A cadre of featured Edmonton poets (including Kathy Fisher, Neema Rutegeza, Kelsey Kliparchuk, and Luna Delisle-Rosende) are preparing their ekphrastic response to works in the current AGA exhibit Wayfinders: A Constellation of Women Artists. The poets will perform their inspired works in the gallery in juxtaposition with the work that inspired them. The prepared program is expected to be 40 – 50 minutes in duration, but we are also reserving time afterwards with an open mic for any aspiring ekphrastics that choose follow our cohort’s lead with poetry inspired by the Wayfinders exhibit.
Capacity to the gallery is limited, so we encourage you to RSVP by emailing frontofhouse@edmontonpoetryfestival.com with the subject line “Attending Ekphrastic Poetry Showcase.”
Attendance to the Ekphrastic Poetry Showcase event is free with AGA admission (Adults: $14, Seniors $10, Minors under 18 or Alberta Students with ID: Free).
Free RSVP Required!
