AFL arts virtual workshops

To accommodate health concerns presented by the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, the AFA is funding the development of arts workshops by Indigenous artists that can be delivered virtually (online and/or through pre-recorded materials) to participating AFL communities. Pre-recorded content can be found below, and new content will be uploaded to this page as it is received by artists.

Livestreamed interactive workshops based on the materials below can be provided free-of-charge to participating AFL communities. If you are interested in scheduling an interactive workshop for your community with one of the below artists, contact us by email

Hip Hop/Party Rock workshop: freestyle and routines

Do you like to have fun? Do you enjoy dance or have an interest to try? Come to nîminân môcikan! (No experience needed.) nîminân môcikan (Dance Fun) is a Hip Hop dance workshop with one of A Tribe Called Red's lead dancer's Angela "Lunacee" Gladue. You will learn the fundamentals of Hip Hop movement from how to groove to building your own freestyle or routines. We will be grooving to beats designed to make you move-your-feet from classics of the 70s, 80s, 90s, early 2000s all the way to now. Come have fun and dance your style!

Learning outcomes

At the end of this workshop students will have basic foundational knowledge of Hiphop dance that they can incorporate into their own freestyles or create their own routines. Students will have the option of sharing their work via school resources/online programs or through social media outlets through possible online school dance challenges by creating their own dance challenge videos.

  • This workshop also includes a special "Seated Series" video with modified techniques for students with mobility restrictions.
