Caribbean Oil workers and the Building of Alberta’s Economy
Join us this Black History Month as we welcome back acclaimed artist, musician, and historian, Donna Coombs-Montrose. With over 20 years dedicated to detailing the stories of the African diaspora, her special program features infusions of song, dance, and live music. This dynamic presentation tells the story of the often under-recognized recruitment of skilled workers from the Caribbean, who played a large role in the dramatic transformation of rural northern Fort McMurray, and Alberta’s oil sands industry from the 1960s – 90s.

Send in The Clowns Presented by the Instrumental Society of Calgary
What could you expect when music creation was inspired by a clown? Icarus 3 is an improvising trio composed of Jeremy Gignoux (violin/viola), Keith Rodger (double bass), and Robin Tufts (drums, percussion). They created their original repertoire in an unusual and experimental way: with the help of the clown. Under guidance from clown performer and educator Jacqueline Russell, they explored their inner clowns, which gave birth to musical compositions and improvisation games that display a joyful and wild creative energy.

Jacques Poulin-Denis offers a charmingly intelligent performance that thinks, moves, and laughs at the same time.
