Theatre Calgary - Board Members

Theatre Calgary is committed to being a city-building arts institution that uses the power, excellence and inspiration of the work we represent to engage multiple communities through the performing arts. We exist to make people feel. To tell stories and entertain audiences. To deliver memorable experiences to a diverse audience of arts-engaged Calgarians. We’re here to make an impact on Calgary and the community we serve. 

Theatre Calgary board members are volunteers and are expected to: 

  • Be advocates and ambassadors for the values, mission and vision of Theatre Calgary; 
  • Support the theatre personally on an annual basis by purchasing a subscription and being Artistic Champions ($1,000+ donation); 
  • Actively engage in fund development to support the Theatre for All campaign including soliciting annual and multi-year gifts, introducing potential donors (individual and corporate) to the organization, and bringing guests to theatre events; 
  • Attend board meetings, participate in one (or more) standing committees, and attend the annual board retreat and board learning events; 
  • Work with fellow board members to contribute to the effective operation of the board.  

Skills & Experience 

The successful candidates will demonstrate the following competencies and skills: 

  • Passion for theatre, arts and culture as essential elements for city building. 
  • Experience inspiring and influencing others, making strong community connections and building consensus and partnerships. 
  • Ability to identify, connect with, and build good rapport with potential donors and sponsors, inspiring them to take action and to support the organization. 
  • Understanding of the distinct roles of the board and management; prior board experience is welcome but not required. 

The initial term is three years beginning in September 2024, which may be renewed following the initial term. Board members attend board meetings (7 each year, held virtually and in-person), committee meetings and the annual board retreat.
