Deadline: Dec 21, 2019 - 8:00 pm
On December 21st, 2019, musician, songwriter and producer Orisomi (aka Brian Quaye) will be giving a live concert with a full band exploring contemporary world music.
The concert features music from early 20th-century west African countries during their history as colonies of the French and British empire. The main genre called Highlife music originated in present-day Ghana. It uses the melodic and main rhythmic structures of traditional AKAN music but is played with western instruments. Highlife gained popularity among the people of West Africa, such as the Igbo of Nigeria, becoming the most popular music genre in the 1960s.
The Concert will take place at 8 p.m., on Saturday, December 21 at the Chinese Cultural Center (197 1st street S.W Calgary, AB T2P4M4).
Tickets are $60 and are available online through eventbrite.ca and at the door.
