Grande Prairie Film Company Launches Community Internship Project

Date: Apr 20, 2021

Eldritch Media, a local film company in Grande Prairie, is launching a project-based internship program open to both high school students and community members seeking to gain professional film industry experience. The project is expected to stimulate the local and northern film industry in Alberta by opening more film opportunities in the Peace Region.

The short film project aims to create an in-depth, hands-on experience for five participants in six specialties; Directing, Cinematography, Photography, Practical Effects 101, Behind the Scenes Documentary Filmmaking, and Prosthetics and Make-up.

The project also provides a unique opportunity for participants to develop additional skills, particularly those related to practical effects.

The short film project is based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, The Little Mermaid. The story is interpreted as a dramatic horror of a mermaid’s final farewell, driven through practical effects. Filming is set to begin in late summer of 2021. Filming and production schedules will remain flexible to comply with requirements set by public health orders, industry safety standards, and any other applicable changes due to the pandemic.

Anyone interested in supporting this project through funding may donate to The Mermaid’s Vale on Seed & Spark, or contact Eldritch Media directly.

Eldritch Media Ltd. is an independent film company that seeks to explore new worlds through the lens of artistic expression.

Applications for the internship program will begin in June of 2021.
