On March 11, Calgary's Early Music Voices presents Italian tenor Marco Beasley and Montréal's Constantinople Ensemble, directed by Kiya Tabassian as they revisit the music of that period and recreates a bridge between European and Persian cultures.
Songs of the Italian, Ottoman and Persian renaissances are interwoven in an early 17th-century manuscript by the Polish musician and orientalist Ali Ufki (Albert Bobowski). In this source the author revels in shifting from one language to another and one music to another.
The concert can be enjoyed in person at Knox United Church (506 4 Street SW, Calgary) at 7:30 p.m. or online, live from a link on the Early Music Voices' website. Tickets for the in-person concert are available through Polaris events. As always during this unusual year, there is no charge to watch the live stream (donations to Early Music Voices available on site if you choose to do so).
