The Work of the Week for April 30 - May 7, 2018 is Land Sentence: Arbour by Jane Kidd.
Orginally from British Colombia, Jane Kidd taught at the Alberta College of Art and Design (ACAD) from 1979 until 2010. From her website:
Through her practice and her teaching Kidd has shown that tapestry is capable not only of beautifying and enriching the environment of the user, but, as a material artifact, it is intrinsically linked to the communication of vital cultural information.

This artwork was on loan to the Textile Museum of Canada for the exhibition Jane Kidd: Curious, March 14 – June 10, 2018. Located Toronto, the museum is dedicated to the collection, exhibition, and documentation of textiles. The exhibition then travelled to MSVU (Mount St. Vincent University Art Gallery) in Halifax NS, June 23 – August 26, 2018.
To promote the work of Alberta artists and build greater awareness of the AFA collection, we frequently loan artwork to bona fide cultural institutions for public exhibition. Our exhibition loan program is designed to further public appreciation for Alberta artists and their contribution to the visual arts in Canada.
The AFA has collected several works by Jane Kidd, which can be viewed online through the AFA Virtual Museum.
