Support Edmonton Media Hive's 2017/18 Season

Date: Aug 7, 2017

What’s Up?

Edmonton Media Hive (EMH) is seeking financial support for our 2017/2018 season of programming! Visit our funding page here.

EMH is a volunteer-led and DIY-oriented community group that aims to provide accessible learning opportunities, resources, and mentorship to Edmonton folk looking to expand skills and knowledge in the area of music, sound, media and/or creative technologies.

What’s the Scoop?

We are looking for financial support to fund our exciting slate of upcoming events and workshops, so as to provide accessible and safe/r opportunities for under-represented artists and creators, as well as those who might not otherwise have access to learning opportunities, spaces and/or equipment. Through your financial support, EMH will be able to provide FREE workshops, skill-share events, performance/exhibition opportunities and other resources to individuals who may not otherwise have access. All donations will be used to cover operational costs including equipment/space rentals and remuneration for facilitators and workshop leaders.

Through a series of diverse opportunities for sharing and learning together, our aim is to provide safe/r spaces to catalyze connections, create relationships between artists, provide mentorship opportunities, and, ultimately, cultivate a supportive, diverse and thriving media/music/arts community in Edmonton.

What’s the Plan?

Following the success and feedback gathered in our inaugural year (2016-2017), EMH is excited to present a new season of events and workshops, which will run monthly from September 2017-May 2018. The goal of the monthly skill-share workshops is to provide hands-on, brains-on learning opportunities that are approachable, informative, and FREE to participants. Workshops will take place on Saturdays at Mile Zero Dance*, unless otherwise posted.

Tentative topics and projects for the 2017-2018 season include:

  • Deep Listening + Sonic Ideation
  • Music Recording 101
  • Experimental Sound + Improvisation
  • Sound Processing + Synthesis
  • Video + Projection Experiments
  • Gaming + Sound
  • Live Sound Set-Up + Trouble-Shooting
  • Arduino + Microprocessing Projects
  • Electronic Music w/ Ableton Live

* Edmonton Media Hive is thrilled to partner with Mile Zero Dance, who have graciously subsidized the rental of their studio spaces (located at 10816 95 St, Edmonton, AB). WE LOVE YOU MZD!

What’s the Goal?

EMH is aiming to reach a financial goal of $2500 to support our 2017-2018 year of programming.
