Call For Submission
Moving While Standing Still
The Gallery at Casa Digital Gallery: April 28 – June 8
Submission deadline: April 2, 2018
A still image and a moving image… a hybrid chimaera. On an artists website, a photograph subtly moves. On a laptop in a teenagers bedroom, a humorous creation is shared across the world gaining viral traction. In a social media comment section, someone leaves a link as a substitute for writing their wry and sardonic response. Created in 1987 as a compressed file format with a limited palette, the GIF has become ubiquitous. Even in our age of unparalleled data storage and high definition formats, the GIF is more popular than ever.
The Gallery at Casa and Soar Emerging Artist Festival are calling for artistic GIFs from young artists (18 – 35) to be included in the exhibition being held April 28 – June 8, 2018, at Casa, an arts centre in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. This exhibition will be screened on the large exterior Digital Gallery, as well as monitors throughout the facility.
Emerging artists are invited to participate regardless of where they reside.
All submissions will be included in the show, provided they follow certain stipulations:
- work must be appropriate for all ages
- be an original creation
- not use copyright material
- have artistic value
The Gallery of Casa has the absolute discretion of the inclusion of submissions. The GIFs will be converted into a looped video with proper credits. All participants will be given their own copy of the video in lieu of an artists fee.
Please send your submission via email to Curator, Darcy Logan, using ‘gif exhibition’ in the subject line. Please include the title, date of creation and a brief statement about yourself.
DEADLINE: April 2, 2018
