Working under the authority of the General Manager, the Programming and Communications Officer is responsible for the CAVA’s artistic programming, communications and marketing.


  • Supporting the programming committee with the development of its annual programming selection and coordinating the programming activities;
  • In collaboration with the General Manager, preparing a calendar of activities including exhibitions, workshops, performances, monthly social events, openings and other special activities;
  • Undertaking and coordinating artistic projects that promote the visibility of artists and that connect them with networks in the visual and contemporary arts;
  • With the General Manager’s authorization, responsible for programming and gallery purchases;
  • Coordinating exhibition dates with selected artists and ensuring that these dates work for the CAVA’s schedule;
  • Responsible for artists’ contracts;
  • Ensuring receipt of documents/works of art necessary for advertising and programming purposes;
  • Planning and programming member exhibitions;
  • Offering artistic, educational and administrative support to artist-members;
  • Drafting certain grant applications in collaboration with or under the supervision of the General Manager.


  • Supporting the design and implementation of an annual communications plan for all CAVA activities, in collaboration with the General Manager;
  • Participating in the organization of various promotional activities;
  • Responsible for content writing and coordinating the production and distribution of promotional documents (newsletters, internal newsletters, press releases, official correspondence related to programming, communications with members);
  • Maintaining the CAVA website and social networks active with constantly up-to-date information and ensuring the transition from traditional to more modern communication platforms;
  • Monitoring media coverage about CAVA’s events/programming and organizing interviews or any other actions, if necessary;
  • In collaboration with the General Manager, carrying out promotional activities to attract new members, sponsors and partners and to develop new audiences and markets;
  • In collaboration with the General Manager, maintain the gallery and ensure customer experience and satisfaction.


  • Bachelor's degree in the visual/fine arts or related field is an asset, minimum college training
  • Knowledge of visual and contemporary arts
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a coordinator or equivalent field, preferably in an artistic and/or cultural environment
  • Experience in communications and marketing management
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office suite, Adobe, InDesign (asset) and web management tools, social media, etc.
  • Experience in managing artistic projects
  • Experience in supervising employees or volunteers
  • Bilingual French / English; advanced oral and written skills
  • Knowledge of and connection with the francophone arts, language and culture in Canada and Alberta
  • Good interpersonal skills

  • BILINGUAL IMPERATIVE (French / English)
  • Salary $ 20 to $ 22 per hour depending on experience
  • 30 hours/week
  • Must be available to work during opening hours (Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. / Friday: 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. / Saturday: 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (negotiable schedule)
