Pro Coro Canada, under the direction of Artistic Director Michael Zaugg, presents its first concert of the 2017-18 season Magnificat at 3 pm on Sunday, September 17 at All Saints Anglican Cathedral in Edmonton (10035 103 Street NW, Edmonton, T5J 0X5).
The Magnificat, also known as the Song of Mary has been an inspiration to composers for over seven centuries. This ancient hymn will be explored through a cappella music by contemporary composers such as Belgian Vic Nees, Estonian Arvo Pärt and Brit Giles Swayne as well as by earlier composers Charles Villiers Stanford, Giovanni Gabrieli and Heinrich Schütz.
The Choir is also featuring Canadian interpretations through works by Nick Piper (ON) and by Québécois François-Hugues Leclair. This concert features our first Emerging Artist of the year, conductor Cassie Luftspring from British Columbia.
