Painting Alberta, an Exhibition and a Book

Located in the historic 1929 CPR train station, the Okotoks Art Gallery will host  Painting Alberta from September 14 to November 8, 2024.

The exhibition will feature close to four hundred paintings based on photographs dating from 1882 to the present. For those discovering this project for the first time, it's a unique opportunity to explore this rich collection. Additionally, around twenty previously unseen artworks will be unveiled.

For a long time, Painting Alberta (PA) fans expressed their desire for a book that tells the stories and showcases the images from the project. Their wish has finally come true. After a busy summer filled with writing the texts, taking hundreds of photos of the paintings, organizing over one hundred and twenty pages, and making numerous edits, the book is finally ready.

Don't miss the exhibition opening on September 21 from 1 - 3 pm, when the book dedicated to the exhibition will be officially released.

A Personal Note: Writing Painting Alberta was a wonderful adventure, during which I had the pleasure of sharing the stories collected over the seven years of the project’s creation. Some of the first readers were moved to tears, while others were inspired to travel and explore the province. As for me, I hope this book brings you the joy of discovering Alberta's magnificent landscapes, stories and the generosity of its people.
