Feminism at the Intersection of Conflict: Contemporary Art in Ukraine Lecture Series
Ukraine’s history and contemporary reality are marked by conflict; targeting artists and intellectuals during the Soviet and post-Soviet period; the post Soviet Union economic breakdown; revolutions; ongoing war; annexation of Crimea; threats from far-right organizations, and the dangers faced by LGBTQIA+ .
This four-part lecture series will explore how artists are engaging this context with a feminist critique. Their artwork challenges the representation of women and marginalized people, oppressive political and social structures, and the parameters of traditional art. Simultaneously, they express the desire to build ethical, just, and equal futures.
