Congratulations to Calgary actor, singer, philanthropist and AFA board member Tom Jackson and Edmonton filmmaker Tom Radford on their appointments to the Order of Canada!
Tom Jackson, who was previously appointed as an officer of the Order of Canada in 2000, is receiving the higher honour of companion of the Order of Canada. One of Jackson’s notable charitable works was his creation of the annual Huron Carole Christmas concert series that travelled across the country for almost 20 years, raising millions of dollars and tonnes of supplies for Canadian food banks. He joined the AFA board in January 2020.
Edmonton filmmaker Tom Radford, who has been bringing stories from Alberta to the big screen since the 1970s, is being appointed as a member of the Order of Canada. As a new member of the Order of Canada, Radford hopes to encourage more storytelling from Alberta.
The Order of Canada, created in 1967, is one of the country’s highest honours. It’s awarded by the Governor General to innovative and compassionate people whose service has shaped Canadian society.
