Festival City Winds Music Society Begins 25th Anniversary Season with Winter Dances
Festival City Winds (Adult Concert Bands), under the direction of Artistic Director Wendy J. Grasdahl, invites you to help kick of their 25th Anniversary Season with Winter Dances on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 7:30 PM in the Robert Tegler Centre, Concordia University of Edmonton (7128 Ada Boulevard – 73 St. south of 112 Ave.). The evening concert will feature all four Festival City Winds’ concert bands – Novice Band; Intermediate 2 Band; Intermediate 1 Band; Advanced Band – each performing their own selections. The bands will be conducted by Wendy J. Grasdahl and Dr. Eila Peterson. There will be a reception following the concert as well as door prizes.
The evening’s programme offers up different types of dances, events and activities of the winter season, and musical depictions of destination countries that people often gravitate to when it gets cold. Dance along to some Renaissance music by Susato, waltzes by Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, music by J.S. Bach set as an Irish jig, and do a Sabre Dance by Khachaturian. Enjoy a sleigh ride (or two), some ice skating, and some Christmas carolling. Travel to Spain, Ireland, England, and other destinations. The evening ends with the audience clapping along to Strauss’ ever-popular Radetzky March.
Tickets for Winter Dances are $15 for Adults and $5 for Children (12 and under), and can be purchased at the door.
