Deadline: Oct 25, 2019 - 7:00 pm
Published in 1604, English Renaissance composer John Dowland's "Lachrimae" is an iconic work that defies the 21st-century concept of sound bites or tweets. Slow, rich in harmony, with time for contemplation, the sonnet that the original song was set to, speaks of the pain of love lost.
This beautiful program featuring Montreal's renowned viol consort alternates Lachrimae Pavans with exquisite lute solos under the masterful hands of Nigel North. The ensemble will also perform a piece by Montreal-based composer Stacey Brown. It’s a 21st-century take on Lachrimae which was commissioned by Early Music Vancouver.
WHEN: Friday, October 25, 2019. The pre-concert talk will take place at 7 p.m. and the concert will start at 7:30 p.m.
