Albertan artists recognized at the 2017 Governor General's Literary Awards

Congratulations to Richard Harrison of Calgary, who was awarded the 2017 Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry for his collection On Not Losing My Father's Ashes in the Flood. The jury described his work, published by, Buckrider Books / Wolsak and Wynn Publishers, as "moving poems about the father/son relationship set against the Alberta flood of 2013."

The Canada Council for the Arts announced the recipients of the Governor General's Literary Awards on Wednesday, November 1st. Each award recipient will receive a $25,000 prize, with their publisher receiving $3,000 towards promotions. Finalists receive $1,000. We are pleased to note that several of the nominees are current or past recipients of AFA funding.
