Alberta Culture Days at your AGA

Date: Aug 24, 2017

All weekend programming:

Marionette Puppet Making | 11 am – 5 pm
Who is pulling the strings in the stories we tell and are told? Step behind the curtains with AGA educators and become the puppet master (and maker) of your very own marionette, inspired by artist Wael Shawky’s puppetry in CABARAET CRUSADES: THE SECRETS of KARBALA, on view in Turbulent Landings: The NGC 2017 Canadian Biennial.

Book Fair  | 10 am – 5pm
Select titles from ShopAGA will be available at steep discounts, including a number of exhibition catalogues for $10.

Saturday Only Activities:

DIY Newspapers with Amanda Schutz  | 11 am – 5pm
Inspired by the golden age of newspapers and newspaper photography on display in Cutline: From the Photography Archives of the Globe and Mail, join Amanda Schutz of Curio Studio in designing the front page of your own newspaper! Use found photographs, newspaper cuttings, and other collage materials to tell a story.

Designing for Exhibitions Tour | 12 pm
Celebrate Edmonton Design Week by stepping behind the scenes of the Art Gallery of Alberta’s exhibitions with our in-house Curatorial Designer, Charles Cousins, as he reveals the secret lives of the fonts, wall colours, and visual identities that accompany art on display.
