CALL FOR SPEAKERS for WHEN WORDS COLLIDE 2026

APPLY TO BE A SPEAKER AT WHEN WORDS COLLIDE 2026!
Held in Calgary, Alberta, every August since 2011, When Words Collide is Canada's most fun multi-genre, writer/reader/fan festival. Our aim is to curate engaging, diverse, and high-quality content that educates, inspires, and connects our attendees.
When Words Collide is currently accepting applications for speakers for the 2026 festival (August 14-16).
DEADLINE: JAN 1, 2026!
Who Should Apply? Here are some ideas. You may want to apply if you are a:
- Storyteller or Wordsmith
Expert with a Story - Industry Insider
- Publisher or Agent
We'd love to hear from you!
What types of presentations are accepted? We are open to a lot, but here are the main categories:
- Lecture/Seminar (Presentation)
- Workshops (Interactive)
- Panel Discussions (1 moderator / 3 panelists)
- Author Event
- Additionally, agents and editors should feel free to pitch a Blue Pencil, Pitch Session, or Live Action Slush event!
What's the compensation?
All panelists, presenters and moderators will receive a $100 honorarium and be provided with a Festival Pass ($130 value).
Any other perks?
Meet artists and publishers of commercial and literary fiction, including genre, YA, children's books, poetry, and more, from across Canada and the world.
Participate in fun social and networking events, including showcases, dinner and a show, and open mic events. The best part of When Words Collide are the community vibes and support.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
When Words Collide supports writers in the craft and business of writing, exploring all avenues of the writing process, publishing and storytelling, while building a strong literary community. We love to bring local writers (Alberta and Canada) to the attention of book lovers.
